Movie is in the vein of Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone but imo those are way better movies. This one is set in more modern times and I suppose is intended to focus on the "horror" of the subject matter being every day real life common place events vs the "horror" of jumpscares and demons and hot idiot half naked teens running from masked killers so if THAT'S what you're into or hoping for this is NOT the movie for you. While I can appreciate the telling of current events in a poignant and heartfelt way I still have to say this only gets 2.5 - 3 stars from me bc I didn't enjoy the main character showing up and bringing nothing but chaos and death to those around her then just walking off into some gorgeous emerald green backdrop of happily ever after (maybe?) when we've been roaming a poor barren crime ridden cityscape the entire movie. What were meant to be the supernatural elements to me came across more as psychotic breaks from reality, completely understandable given the circumstances mind you, which made it hard to understand how much of the plot to take seriously esp given the ending. All in all it was well shot, regarding a serious and disturbing subject matter if you're capable of feeling ANY semblance of human empathy, had great character archs, and was easy to follow. Considering the cast is 99% child actors I'm not mad I watched this at all.
