After her husband commits suicide, guilt-ridden Eliska hides what happened from her daughter Anetka and moves them out to a small village in the Czech countryside. When Anetka discovers the truth, it attracts a mythical witch who soon threatens to tear mother from daughter forever. A stunningly shot and severely scary example of the too-rare “Daylight horror” subgenre, NOONDAY WITCH is a must for fans of THE BABADOOK, UNDER THE SHADOW and STILL/BORN.

A few jump scares is all you get in this 90 minute movie about terrible parenting. There was no payoff at the end. Not a good scare or a good confrontation with the Mom. No one in the village was like. . . "Hey maybe you should tell her the truth" in the whole film! Then half way through you're like ok great now they can ramp into something dramatic but it never does! This is a low budget drama with some nightmare scenes.
I enjoyed this movie but it feels out of place on Shudder. I would have expected to find it on something like the Criterion Channel. Also, why is it in the Found Frights category? I guess only the Noonday Witch knows.
I was disappointed in this one as I was excited to watch it. I do love a good witch movie so I was hoping for something that was a mix of Midsommar and The Witch or Pyewacket. Instead, I got a lot of choppiness and confusion. 2 stars for the unrealized potential it had as it had a good base. Otherwise, it’s a 1 star.
An effectively chilling exploration of unresolved grief with folk horror atmospherics, all the more interesting for its sun-drenched setting, and anchored by excellent performances by Anna Geislerova and Karolina Lipowska as mother and daughter. Not the one if you're looking for action and gore, but very rewarding as a thoughtful, quietly frightening character study.
